MEET THE CREW

We love to fish with family and friends, so it only makes sense for you to meet our family, the crew behind Pirate Scott’s Custom Rods.

PIRATE SCOTT,

Business Owner

Scott Lees (Pirate Scott) is the owner and rod builder for Pirate Scott’s Custom Rods. He has been fishing ever since he can remember. “I really became an avid fisherman in my late twenties,” he says. “I enjoy being in the outdoors, on the water; it is a way to disconnect from the daily tasks and relax.” His favorite place to fish is the St. Lawrence River, but he has fished many of the waters in Central New York. Summer after summer, you can find Pirate Scott on the water, taking friends and family out on the boat to fish. It was on one of these trips that he earned the name Pirate Scott. “My nephews named me Pirate Scott because I always wore a bandana to cover my bald head while fishing.”

Pirate Scott started building his own rods in 2009 for himself and his family, but soon after, began creating custom rods for friends who saw his work and wanted a build of their own. In August of 2021, Scott opened Pirate Scott’s Custom Rods LLC so he could offer custom rods, repairs, and baits to people who were just as passionate about fishing as he is. Pirate Scott believes that attention to detail and innovative design separate him from other brands. He knows there are lots of other options to choose from, so he is grateful for all the support that his customers and friends have shown him. “We make all of our choices based on the customer.”

Pirate Scott is a member of Muskies Incorporated CNY, Chapter 70, and enjoys fishing tournaments with them. He also enjoys going to local sportsman shows and talking to fellow anglers. He plans to soon have his own booth at some of these shows and reach a wider audience. Connecting with people who have the same love for fishing as him is a large part of why Pirate Scott enjoys what he does.

Design Consultant

CINDY LEES,

Cindy is Pirate Scott’s wife of 30 years. She loves to be near the water as much as her husband loves fishing. While she hasn’t met a lake, river, or ocean she doesn’t like, her favorite will always be the St. Lawrence River. She loves to read and relax on the boat while Pirate Scott fishes, making them the perfect team. Her accounting and organizational skills have helped Pirate Scott go full-time with the business. Everyone say, “Thank you, Cindy!!”

Resident Nap Expert

JACK,

Don’t let his title fool you, our Resident Nap Expert is here to supervise in the rod shop and won’t let anything interrupt the process. But of course, he’s going to need a nap first. There are many different types of naps you need to have in your tool belt to be considered an expert. There are mid-day couch naps while Pirate Scott is building rods, there are sun-bathing on the boat naps, and then of course, there’s mid-day, post-fishing naps. You think of a type of nap, and Jack’s got you covered. So rest assured, while your custom rod or repair is being completed by Pirate Scott, your nap expert is supervising. And taking a nap.

THE CREW,

Here at Pirate Scott’s Custom Rods, Scott captains the ship; but the brand wouldn’t be what it is today without the whole crew working behind-the-scenes. From his nephews coining the name Pirate Scott, to his daughters assisting with all things on the digital side, and his wife’s assistance as a sounding board for creative decisions, Pirate Scott’s Custom Rods has grown to what it is today with all hands on deck.
